Geography:

Noth 24 Parganas district headquarters is Barasat. North 24 Parganas is West Bengal's most populous and most economically
developed district. It is one of India's most industrialized districts. The district of North 24 Paraganas is a densely populated urban fringe of the metropolitan city of Kolkata including the savvy planned city of Salt Lake and the up-coming New City at Rajarhat, infact it houses the greater Kolkata and apart from administrative differences on paper it is hard to identify from the metropolis. It is also the tenth largest district in the State by area and second most densely populated district (3,781/km² as of 2007 censu Government) Georaphycally situated in latitude 22º11´6´´ north to 23º15´2´´ north and from longitude 88º20´ east to 89º5´east. It is bordered to Nadia by north, to Bangladesh (Khulna Division) by north and east, to South 24 Parganas and Kolkata by south and to Kolkata, Howrah and Hoogly by west.Barasat is a city in the outskirts of Kolkata, West Bengal, India and is the district head quarter of the district North 24 parganas. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.The town is an important railway and roadway junction. Barasat is also the name of a sub-division centering the city. This district head quarter and one of the major suburbs around Kolkata housing the court and other administrative offices. As an urban setup in the vicinity of the Kolkata, the town is within the area of Greater Kolkata. Several significant roads like National Highway 34 Krishnanagar Road leading towards North Bengal),  Jessore road ( road leading to Jessore in Bangladesh via Bong
DumDum- This a fast developing area consisting of several housing complexes and the Netaji Subhash Chandra International
Airport.
Barrackpore- It is an important industrial town and got its name because of its military barracks. It is a historically relevant are as the initial incidents of the first Indian war of Independence took place and used to be the country residence of the Viceroy of British era. Barrackpore also has a couple of research institutes under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Gandhi Ghat by the river Ganges attracts many tourists.
